USFS Youth Fishing Derby

Saturday, 6/6/26

This event was spearheaded by Chris Holcomb of the USFS and Karl Ekberg of the Chattooga River Fly Shop.

There were about 40 kids that took part in fishing at Burrells Ford on the Chattooga River. All participants caught fish with several catching their limit of 5. All fisherpersons received a fishing rod and reel donated by the Chattooga River Fly Shop.

They also received a “goodie bag” of various fishing supplies. Special prizes were awarded to both a boy and girl that caught the largest fish and those that caught special tagged fish. Adults were not permitted to fish. A special kiddie pool stocked with trout was set up in Kings Creek for the smallest/youngest anglers.

It was a fun day for the kids, parents, grandparents, and volunteers. Thank you Steve Genta and Ken Baerwalde for your support.
