Events
The Mountain Bridge Chapter of Trout Unlimited (MBTU) hosts a variety of events focused on conservation, education, and community engagement in the Upstate of South Carolina. Regular activities include monthly meetings held on the third Tuesday of each month at Bass Pro Shop in Greenville, often featuring guest speakers such as biologists or conservation experts. The chapter is deeply involved in hands-on conservation, organizing river cleanups along the South Saluda River and participating in the Eastern Brook Trout Restoration Project in the Jocassee Wilderness.
Educational and outreach initiatives are also central, highlighted by the Trout in the Classroom program in local middle schools and the Warriors Program, which provides fly-fishing opportunities for veterans. Additionally, MBTU sponsors social and competitive events like the annual "One Fly" Tournament and group fishing outings to regional streams.

Our chapter regularly hosts guest speakers at our monthly meetings to provide members with fresh perspectives and specialized expertise that extend beyond our internal knowledge.
These sessions are a vital part of our organization and conservation efforts. By inviting experts from related fields we create dynamic learning environments that foster and improve angling skill sets, spark meaningful discussions, and encourage local conservation and environmental efforts.

Join Mountain Bridge Trout Unlimited (MBTU) for a fly fishing outing on the Chattooga River on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. This outing is open to both members and guests. Whether you are an experienced angler or a beginner, come enjoy a day of fly fishing on the Chattooga River.

🏆 MBTU's Fourth Annual One Fly Tournament
MBTU Fourth Annual Bob Bishop Memorial One Fly Tournament
Join Mountain Bridge Trout Unlimited (MBTU) for the Fourth Annual Bob Bishop Memorial One Fly Tournament on Wednesday, November 4th, 2026. This tournament is open to both members and their guests.
1. Entry is in teams of two. Cost is $35 per angler. Entry fee can be paid at a general meeting, the day of the event, or by PayPal at mountainbridgetu@gmail.com
2. Teams sign in at Davidson River Outfitters parking lot at 7am. Each angler team will fill out a sign in sheet and declare their choice of fly. Each angler will be given a tape measure. All anglers will leave the lot at 7:45am
3. The rules are as follows:
● Any non-private water in North or South Carolina can be fished
● Qualifying fish must be trout only, but of any species
● Fish must be photographed against the tape provided to the nearest 1/8 inch
● Once the angler's chosen fly is lost, that angler can no longer fish for tournament eligible fish
● Fly can be repaired only, not replaced
4. All anglers must return to Mills River Brewing Company, 336 Banner Farm Rd., Mills River, North Carolina, 28759 at 4:45pm to submit photos
5. The largest fish will win the tournament
6. In the event of a tie we will declare multiple winners.

Road Side Cleanup along Highway 276 and Fishing Outing
South Saluda River Clean Up Information
We will be cleaning up the South Saluda River at the "Rock Vanes" and the Adopt-A-Mile clean up of the Highway 11/276 right-of-way two mile stretch adjacent to the Rock Vane area and then fish the Rock Vane area of the stream. We will begin at 9:00 am and it should only take 1 to 1.5 hours to complete the clean up. Afterwards, we will fish the rock vane area or go to the Eastatoe River, if the rock vane area is poor fishing. Orange safety vests and plastic bags will be provided (we also have about 10 pick-up "grabbers" for you to use). You should bring and wear gloves. Come join us for this beneficial effort. We always have loads of fun for a very worthwhile cause.
DIRECTIONS: Go Northwest on US HWY 276 through Travelers Rest. From the last traffic light in Travelers Rest at the Sunrift Outfitters store (on the right), continue on US 276 for 13.3 miles (it combines with US 11 after a few miles) to the pull-out on the right at the river (river is behind the trees on the left). If coming from the Spartanburg area, continue on US 11 to where it joins US 276 going west. Continue on US 11/276 for 2.8 miles past the “F-Mart“ store to the pull-out on the right at the river.

Keith Stinchcomb and Jim Belle are mentors for the Christ Church Middle School Fly Fishing Club. This is the second year for the club. There are approximately 30 students in the club this year. We are looking for volunteers to help with a fly-tying class on February 13 and a casting class on March 13. All the necessary materials, tools and equipment will be provided for the classes. The classes run from 10:30 a.m. until 12 noon.
We are also looking for volunteers for the three fishing outings the club will have this year. The outings will be at the Cassidy Bridge on the Chauga. The outings run from approximately 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. All the equipment will be provided. Each volunteer will serve as a “guide” to 2 or 3 students. The outings will be on March 19, March 23, and March 27.
