Volunteers Needed for Brook Trout Restoration Projects

Hello MBTU Members,

SCDNR has communicated a few dates for brook trout restoration work for the month of February, all at Wright's Creek.

General Details for all dates below:

  • All work will be conducted at Wright’s Creek

  • Each work day will be from 9am to 3pm

  • Each date can have up to 4 volunteers

  • All volunteers will need to sign release forms before they can help (We will have release forms available for you to sign)

  • Each of these days you will need:

    • Waders

    • Wading boots

    • Clothes for the weather

    • Water

    • Lunch

Dates / Tasks are:

February 17, 2026 -

We will be working our way to Wright's Creek.  DNR has a new UTV which is bigger, so we may be expected to cut/clear trees in the road from the ice storm.  We may have to remove low hanging trees that the previous UTVs could pass, and some shovel work on the road in a tight corner. Lastly, backpack shockers will be used in sample sites to take lengths and weights of the rainbows (and removing them).

February 23, 2026 -

Back at Wright's Creek in a "seek and destroy" day to have two crews going through and removing rainbows.

February 24 or 25, 2026 -

(To be determined next week) - More of the same.

Thank you for your ongoing support,

Tom Theus
MBTU President
