Privet Pull!
WINTER 2022
Now that the holidays are over, you can work off some of those pecan pie calories while also helping a federally endangered plant this weekend.
We are going to the Blackwell Heritage Preserve this Saturday (January 8th) from 9-12 to remove exotics, mostly privet. We made tremendous progress the last two years.
Wear long pants, long sleeves and gloves – there could be poison ivy. If you have come in the past, bring the tools you found useful – shovel, hand saw, mattock, privet puller. Or, you can just come and pull. Come late or leave early if you'd like.
Please let us know if you plan on coming by emailing our president and organizer, Frank Holleman: FrankHolleman@naturalandtrust.org. We will cancel if it rains, but we won’t know to let you know if you don’t email.
DIRECTIONS: Go to Travelers Rest on Highway 25. Continue through Travelers Rest and turn right onto Blue Ridge Drive (next to the Blue Ridge Creamery cheese shop). Blue Ridge Drive is the first turn to the right past the Spinx at the intersection of Highway 25 and Blue Ridge Drive. You can enter Blue Ridge Drive Travelers Rest or Blue Ridge Creamery into your GPS to find the street.
A mile or so down Blue Ridge Drive on the left is the entrance to the Heritage Preserve (you will see blue paint marks on the trees before the left turn in).
